We were tasked by American kitchenware company Williams-Sonoma to design a seasonal collection of tins for a new range of artisanal chocolates. Celebrating a traditional artisan for each tin – the bourbon distiller, the olive grower, the honey maker, the coffee roaster – we combined inspiration from vintage American packaging with ornate patterns, typography and labelling to make sure each tin felt part of an authentic American family.
Our design approach brings out the artisanal roots of the product. For example, the Pretzel Peanut Butter Honey Truffles incorporates a gold lined honeycomb pattern; the Dancing Pine Bourbon Chocolate Caramels centre around a golden pine cone insignia, matched by a pine-like pattern; the Sea Salt Hazelnut Brittle introduces wave spray embossing inspired by vintage ephemera, a subtle reference to the artisan Jacobson Salt Co. who hand harvest salt crystals on the rugged Oregon coastline.
Attention to detail allowed us to elevate the everyday, in the same way each product was crafted with a special uplifting ingredient. Bespoke artisanal patterns, stamps of approval and fine embossing help us achieve individuality for each tin, whilst giving them the feel of being in a collectible set.
