For his latest experiment, Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman found inspiration in the freezing vineyards of Canada. Against this unlikely backdrop he struck on the idea to finish Glenfiddich in French oak Icewine casks. Our task was to capture the drama and ingenuity of this story.
We were invited to design the bottle and outer packaging of the new Glenfiddich Winter Storm 21 Year Old, the third Experiment in the trailblazing series made with several French oak sweet ice wine casks from the highly renowned Canadian winery, Peller Estates. A “unique balance of the warming soul of whisky and the frozen cold of Icewine”, the taste is a perfect combination of both pioneering liquids, with heightened candied and oak notes of Glenfiddich complemented by mouth-watering tropical fruit and low-lying wine notes.
Completely defying current whisky convention, we created a white ceramic bottle for the liquid and created a highly textured finish for the box that evoked extreme temparatures and extreme weather. The single minded drama of the design evokes the intense flavour of the whisky and draws people’s attention in a brave and bold way.
