Inspired by everything from eclectic Italian signage and Matisse cut-outs to the colour palette of Mediterranean coastal landscapes, we created a brand world for Alex Jackson and Stevie Parle’s latest cooking adventure – Sardine – a new London restaurant serving simple, rustic, Southern French and Mediterranean food cooked over a wood fire.

Our brief was to keep the identity casual and unfussy, yet with a nod to the artistic venue. Informed by the myriad of signs and typefaces around the Mediterranean, our wordmarque’s flowing letter R became a subtle link to the sea. With the supporting visual language drawn from paper cut-outs and torn paper collage that evoked sun-drenched coastlines, we found an easily adaptable design resource that could be used across menus, business cards, flyers and the website. Our new identity extended to a bespoke typeface for menus, a simple white neon sign and the website.
